Benbrook residents looking south or southeast on Tuesday may notice a large plume of smoke rising in the distance. There is no emergency.
According to the Cleburne Fire Department, a prescribed burn is scheduled for Tuesday, January 13, on the King Ranch in Johnson County. The controlled burn will cover roughly 500 acres of grassland west of Cleburne near the 8200 block of Highway 67 West.
A certified wildland and grassland fire specialist will be on site managing operations, with assistance from the Bono Fire Department and several other Johnson County fire departments. The burn will also serve as a hands-on training opportunity to improve wildland fire behavior awareness and suppression skills.
While the burn area is more than a mile from any public roadway, smoke will likely be visible from Highway 67, FM 4, and FM 2331. Officials emphasize this is a planned and carefully monitored operation conducted under safe conditions.
Residents are encouraged to remain aware but not alarmed, and to appreciate the coordination and preparation that goes into proactive wildfire prevention efforts.
