Late Rally Falls Short as Bobcat Hoops Drop Heartbreaker at Mineral Wells.

Coming off a quick turnaround after a 3-2 showing at the Aggieland Invitational, the Benbrook Bobcats hit the road Friday night to face Mineral Wells, looking to reset before district play.

The night started rough. Cold shooting and early turnovers put Benbrook in a hole fast, trailing 12 to 5 after the first quarter.

The Rams kept pressing the advantage in the second, scoring inside and from deep while the Bobcats struggled to settle in. By halftime, Benbrook was staring at an 18 point deficit.

The tone shifted after the break. Defensive pressure picked up, and the Bobcats slowly chipped away, trimming the margin to 11 by the end of the third. Then came a fourth quarter surge that brought signs of what could be a Bobcat comeback.

Jayden Hall knocked down a clutch three to cut the lead to six with 5 minutes remaining in the game. Brennan Barton followed with another from deep, then calmly hit two free throws after a Rams technical to pull Benbrook within two.

Moments later, Maddox Thompson drained a deep three off the glass to give the Bobcats a one point lead with under a minute to play.

However, Mineral Wells answered with a late layup to retake the lead. A final and unfortunate inbound miscue by the Bobcats sealed it, and the Rams escaped with a 48 to 47 win.

The trio of Brennan Barton, Jayden Hall, and Jayden Bradshaw scored 13, 12, and 11 points respectively, while the bench provided the remaining scoring effort on the night.

The loss drops Benbrook to 13-9 on the season, but the fight shown after falling behind by nearly 20 points says a lot about this group. District play tips off Tuesday, January 6 at 7:30 pm on the road against Eastern Hills.

Bobcat Nation, now is the time. Let’s show up, be loud, and help push this team back toward the win column as district play begins.
