After 20 straight losses, the Western Hills Lady Cougars finally had something to celebrate, and they earned every bit of it.
Western Hills battled through a back-and-forth, five-set match against Young Women’s Leadership Academy to claim its first district volleyball victory of the season, improving to 2-24 overall.
The win was also a milestone for Coach Whitefield, marking her first district victory as the Lady Cougars’ varsity head coach.
The celebration extended to the junior varsity squad, which earned a three-set victory under Coach Goodman, giving the Western Hills volleyball program a sweep for the night.
Next up for the Lady Cougars is a district matchup against the Benbrook Lady Bobcats, who enter the contest at 22-14 following a three-set sweep of Carter-Riverside.
For a Western Hills team that has endured a difficult season, this one was worth celebrating.
