After four straight losses in tournament play, the Benbrook Lady Bobcats could have packed it in. Instead, they flipped the script.
Facing Plainview to close out the weekend, Benbrook fell behind early, trailing 6-0 after the first inning following a string of errors. For a team that had struggled at the plate throughout the tournament, it looked like more of the same.
Then the bats woke up.
By the end of the second inning, the Lady Bobcats had chipped away to make it 7-3. In the bottom of the third, they erupted for eight runs on three hits to take an 11-7 lead.
The key moment came when Jolie Hornbeck ripped a double on the sixth pitch of her at-bat, driving in two runs and shifting momentum for good.
Natalya Muzquiz secured the win in the circle, pitching three and two-thirds innings while allowing five runs, only one earned, and striking out three.
At the plate, Mya Vasquez set the tone from the leadoff spot, going three for three. Muzquiz and Hornbeck each drove in two runs. The team also showed patience, drawing eight walks, with Maelee Lindley and Maddy Davila earning two each.
The 11-7 victory gives Benbrook a needed boost, closing the tournament on a high note and moving the Lady Bobcats to 4-7 on the season.
Next up is a road trip to Diamond Hill Jarvis on Tuesday, where the Lady Bobcats will look to build on the fight they found when it mattered most.
