Traffic came to a standstill Monday afternoon after a deadly rollover crash forced the closure of all southbound lanes of Loop 820 near White Settlement Road.
According to witnesses at the scene, multiple vehicles were involved in the crash, with one vehicle overturning and appearing to strike the concrete bridge pillars. Several damaged vehicles were later cleared from the roadway, but the overturned vehicle remained as Fort Worth police and emergency crews continued investigating.
Life Flight was seen departing the area shortly before 3 p.m. Authorities have confirmed at least one fatality.
Drivers also experienced delays on the northbound side of Loop 820 due to a separate accident nearby, adding to already heavy congestion in the area.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash, though speed may have been a contributing factor.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes as traffic backups continue.
