Some student-athletes fill up a stat sheet. Others fill up a resume. Jacob Carpenter has done both.

Benbrook Middle High School Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach Cody Slater shared the news this week that Carpenter, a member of the Class of 2026, has been awarded the Davey O’Brien Foundation’s Heart of Davey Scholarship. It was a moment worth celebrating for the entire Bobcat community.

Carpenter, a 5-foot-11, 215-pound defensive end, has built a reputation as one of the toughest players in District 4 4A.

He is a two-time first-team all-district selection, a two-time state qualifier in wrestling, and the 2025 4 4A Defensive Player of the Year. During his senior season, he recorded 74 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, six sacks, two interceptions, and three pass deflections. Off the field, he carries a 4.0 GPA.

The Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship is open to seniors from select North Texas counties, including Tarrant County. Each high school may nominate only one student. Five finalists are selected for interviews and recognition, and the recipient may receive up to $ 30,000 over four years.

In a season full of wins and milestones, this one may stand out the most. It is not just about tackles or trophies. It is about character, discipline, and the kind of leadership that leaves a lasting mark long after the final whistle.
