What started as a close Friday night in Gainesville turned into a runaway win for Benbrook.
Coming off their season-opening victory over Trimble Tech, the Bobcats headed north on I-35 with plenty of support from a traveling “animal print” crowd. Gainesville kept things tight early, but Benbrook took a 14-6 lead into halftime.
Then the Bobcats caught fire.
Benbrook scored 21 points in the third quarter to stretch the lead to 35-6. Gainesville answered, but each push was met by another Bobcat score. Benbrook carried a 42-19 advantage into the fourth and piled on another 21 points before closing out the 63-25 victory.
Head Coach Cody Slater praised both his team and the fans who made the trip.
“So proud of our players and coaches!” Slater said. “Thank you, Bobcat Nation, for showing up and being loud and proud tonight! We appreciate your incredible support.”
The win moves Benbrook to 2-0 to start the season.
Next up is Castleberry on Friday night, with the Lions coming off a 60-0 loss to Ponder.
