Gov. Greg Abbott is calling for a ban on new AI data centers in rural Texas neighborhoods, citing residents’ concerns about water use, power demand, and impacts on nearby communities.
The proposal comes as more projects are planned outside city limits and builds on Abbott’s earlier plan to require data centers to generate their own power, cover infrastructure costs, and reuse water.
