After eight years serving Benbrook, City Council member Laura Mackey is preparing to say goodbye to her seat following Tuesday’s election defeat.
Mackey lost the Place 6 race to Whitney Hughes, who received 54.44% of the vote compared with Mackey’s 45.56%, according to reported election results.
In a Facebook statement Wednesday, Mackey acknowledged her disappointment while thanking Benbrook residents, campaign supporters, and her family for their support throughout her time in office.
She also shared a little family humor, recalling how her youngest child responded when told they would soon have more time together.
“When I told my youngest that I would have more time to be with her, I got an eye roll, so I think she’s excited!”
Mackey congratulated both Hughes and Greg Clem on their election victories, wishing them well as they serve Benbrook.
Although work obligations will prevent her from attending the November 5 council meeting, Mackey said she plans to attend her final meeting on November 19.
Despite the election outcome, Mackey made clear that her commitment to the community remains.
“While I am disappointed in last night’s results, I will always stand strong in support of my Benbrook Family.”
