It was a tough Friday night for the Western Hills Cougars, who traveled to Wildcat Stadium hoping to slow down one of District 5-4A Division I’s toughest rushing attacks.
Facing a 5-1 Kennedale team averaging 34.5 points per game, the Cougars struggled early against the Wildcats’ powerful run-heavy offense.
Kennedale jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead and never looked back, taking a commanding 37-0 advantage into halftime.
The Wildcats added 20 points in the third quarter and another touchdown in the fourth to secure a 64-0 victory, handing Western Hills its first shutout loss of the season.
The defeat drops the Cougars to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in district play, placing them sixth in the standings with the postseason race continuing.
Western Hills will look to regroup against Carter-Riverside at 7 p.m. Friday, October 23, at Handley Stadium. The Eagles are also coming off a district loss after falling 40-13 to Benbrook.
With both teams looking to bounce back, Friday’s matchup gives the Cougars an opportunity to get back in the win column.
