Benbrook Approves New Trash Provider, Police Vehicles, and More.

โ€ข

Benbrook residents will see changes to their trash collection service beginning January 2027, following several decisions made by the Benbrook City Council during its October 1 meeting.

The biggest news? A new trash provider, lower monthly residential rates, and different collection days. Council members also approved four new police vehicles and reviewed the city’s finances.

New Trash Provider Coming January 1

After more than 35 years with Republic Services, Benbrook will switch to Best Trash North Texas on January 1, 2027.

The new residential rate will be $16.60 per month, approximately 5.7% less than the current rate. Residents can continue using trash bags without purchasing a cart, although optional trash and recycling carts will be available for $60 each.

Regular collection days will change from the current citywide Wednesday schedule to Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, depending on the neighborhood. Wednesdays will be reserved for brush and bulk pickup, while Saturdays will help address missed collections and additional pickups.

The existing yellow bag program will also be replaced with scheduled extra collections.

Four New Police Vehicles Approved

Council members unanimously approved spending $327,052 on four 2027 Ford Police Interceptor vehicles, including the equipment needed to prepare them for patrol duty.

The purchase is part of the city’s regular police vehicle replacement program and will be paid for through an existing replacement fund.

City Finances Remain Ahead of Spending

According to the August financial report, Benbrook collected aboutย $26.77 million in General Fund revenueย through August, compared with $24.50 million in expenses.

That puts revenue about $2.27 million ahead of spending through August. Sales tax revenue was also up 5.8% compared with the same period last year.

Software Renewals Approved

The council also approved two previously budgeted technology expenses:

  • $61,196 to renew software used for city finances, budgeting, and municipal court operations.
  • $55,650 to renew the Police Department’s records management software.

Both renewals passed unanimously.

For residents, the most noticeable change will likely come in January, when the new trash collection schedule takes effect. The meeting minutes did not include neighborhood-specific pickup days.
