Benbrook Picks New Trash Provider for 2027.

After more than three decades with the same trash company, Benbrook residents will see a new truck at the curb next year, along with a lower monthly rate and new collection days.

The Benbrook City Council awarded the city’s next solid waste and recycling contract to Best Trash North Texas LLC during its Oct. 1 meeting. The change takes effect Jan. 1, 2027, when the city’s current contract with Republic Services ends. Republic has served Benbrook since 1990. The city began seeking proposals earlier this year as that contract approached its Dec. 31 expiration.

For residential customers, the city says the base monthly rate will drop from $17.60 to $16.60, a 5.7% decrease. Best Trash will continue weekly bag collection, while residents who prefer carts can purchase trash and recycling carts without changing the $16.60 service rate.

One of the bigger changes will be the schedule. Instead of citywide trash and recycling pickup on Wednesdays, residential routes will be divided geographically among Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Wednesdays will be reserved for citywide brush and bulk collection, with up to four cubic yards collected weekly at no additional charge. Saturdays will be used for missed pickups and scheduled extra collections.

For now, residents do not need to do anything. Before January, the city and Best Trash plan to send out new collection days, service guidelines, and information about optional carts through utility bills, the city website, and social media.

Businesses should see relatively few changes, according to the city, with Best Trash contacting commercial customers before the transition to coordinate dumpster replacements and service needs.
