Competing against some of the top track and field athletes in the region, students from Benbrook Middle-High School delivered a strong showing at the Regional Meet in Lubbock while continuing to build momentum for the future.
Several Bobcats recorded personal records during the meet, including Owen Atkins in the 1600-meter run. Lux Perez also earned an 11th-place finish in shot put, while the boys’ 4×200-meter relay team placed eighth overall, and the girls’ relay team finished 11th.
One of the closest finishes of the weekend came in the girls’ 400-meter race, where junior Samantha Lindsey narrowly missed qualifying for the state meet.
Lindsey finished third in a photo finish decided by less than four-thousandths of a second, ending her race just shy of advancing while still turning in one of the top performances in the region.
School officials praised the athletes for competing at a high level and representing Benbrook well against some of the area’s strongest programs.
Even without a state berth, the regional experience gave many athletes a firsthand look at the level required to compete with the best in Texas.
