Cougars Hoops Fall in District Clash, Set Sights on Crosstown Rivalry.

Thursday night brought a familiar East versus West district matchup as the Western Hills Cougars faced the Eastern Hills Highlanders on the hardwood.

Both teams entered the night at 6 and 16, each searching for momentum in a season marked by inconsistency.

Early on, it felt like either side could take control. The game opened with a steady back and forth pace as both teams traded baskets and energy.

For Western Hills, it looked like a chance to flip the script after allowing an average of 55 points per game this season. Eastern Hills, coming off a recent loss, was equally hungry for a turnaround.

That balance shifted midway through the game when the Highlanders found separation. Defensive stops became harder to come by for the Cougars, and a cold shooting stretch stalled their offense. By the time Western Hills regained rhythm, the gap had grown too wide to close.

Eastern Hills pulled away for a 62-43 win, handing Western Hills its 17th loss of the season. The Cougars now sit at 6-17 overall, 2-4 in district play, and fifth in the standings.

Next up is a familiar test. Western Hills returns to action Tuesday, January 27 at 6 pm in a crosstown matchup against the Benbrook Bobcats. Benbrook enters the game after a loss to the Southwest Raiders, who have been on a strong run.

The Cougars fell to the Bobcats 59-39 in their previous meeting and will be looking for a different result this time around.

Tuesday night offers another chance to reset and respond. Rivalry games have a way of doing that.
