On opening day of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, in the shadows to the east, the spotlight shifted indoors as the Benbrook Bobcats faced the Dunbar Wildcats in a district showdown at Billingsley Fieldhouse.
Both teams started tight defensively, trading stops and searching for rhythm. Benbrook found early balance through Brennan Barton, Maddox Thompson, and Jayden Hall to edge ahead 13-12 after one.
The second quarter stayed back and forth, with Jayden Bradshaw providing a spark inside as the Bobcats carried a 35-30 lead into halftime.
Momentum flipped in the third. Dunbar surged with a strong scoring run, while Barton kept Benbrook close with 10 of his 21 points in the quarter.
Tensions boiled over midway through the period after a foul, leading to technicals and a brief stoppage as officials and school staff restored order. Play resumed, but Dunbar closed the quarter ahead 53-49.

Down the stretch, the Wildcats hit timely three pointers and capitalized on late turnover blunders by the Bobcats to pull away. Benbrook went cold from the field and the line, and what had been a one or two-possession game slipped out of reach as Dunbar closed out a 75-59 win.
Barton led all Bobcats with 21 points, while Thompson added nine and Hall finished with 10.
The loss moves Benbrook to 15-10 overall and 3-1 in district play. The Bobcats return to action Tuesday night, hosting Diamond Hill Jarvis at 7:30 pm as district play continues.
