Tarrant County is trying to get a lawsuit tossed that claims the new precinct map unfairly weakens Black and Latino voting power.
County officials say it’s not about race, just politics — arguing the new map was drawn to secure a stronger Republican majority on the Commissioners Court, not to disenfranchise anyone.
Critics, including local residents and voting rights groups, argue the lines were drawn to pack minority voters into fewer districts, making it harder for their voices to be heard. There’s plenty of back-and-forth on both sides, and things are far from settled.
