Tarrant County’s Democratic commissioners are challenging a recent 3-2 vote that approved hiring a Virginia-based firm, Public Interest Legal Foundation, to redraw precinct maps last updated 15 years ago.
Democrats Alisa Simmons (Precinct 2) and Roderick Miles (Precinct 1) argue the selection—made solely by County Judge Tim O’Hare—lacked transparency and bypassed county staff or competitive proposals.
At the April 15 Commissioners Court meeting, Simmons will propose hiring Austin-based Brazil and Dunn LLP to advise her and Miles, provide potential precinct maps, and appear before the court. The alternative contract would match the $30,000 cost of the current firm.
The meeting is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday on the fifth floor of the Tarrant County Administration Building.
