What to Know About Bird Flu in Texas.

The H5N1 bird flu has reached Texas, infecting wild birds, cattle, poultry, and even one farm worker.

Reported last week, experts say there’s no need to panic—human-to-human transmission hasn’t been reported, and the general public’s risk is low. Still, scientists are watching closely, as a mutation could make the virus more contagious among humans, raising pandemic concerns.

Nearly all human cases, including 60 nationwide, have come from direct contact with infected animals. Symptoms, like eye inflammation, are usually mild, but severe cases can happen. While flu shots don’t prevent bird flu, they may reduce complications from co-infections.

Health officials urge livestock workers to take precautions and recommend seeking care if severe symptoms develop. For now, the best approach is to stay informed and cautious.
