Several young deer have been spotted wandering in the evenings, crossing streets without a second thought. It’s easy to pick up speed in those areas, but these deer don’t look both ways, which could lead to trouble.
Drivers near Rolling Hills on 2871 have also noticed deer crossing, raising concerns about visibility and safety. Thankfully, so far, the animals have made it across without incident.
Some residents have suggested leaving bags of corn near the tree lines to help keep the deer fed and closer to the woods. It’s a small way to help these local visitors stay safe and comfortable.
Deer used to roam freely near the site of the old Benbrook Walmart, so it’s a bit sad to see how development has pushed them around.
For those concerned about nighttime encounters, car-mounted clickers are available online that emit sounds to warn deer of approaching vehicles. It might be worth a try to keep everyone safe on the road.
Stay alert and slow down in these areas to avoid accidents and keep Benbrook’s wildlife safe.
