United Way of Tarrant County Celebrates Milestone and Maternal Health.

As Black History Month unfolds, the United Way of Tarrant County (UWTC) celebrates a milestone with the appointment of Adam Powell as its first Black male CEO.

Powell takes the helm as UWTC sharpens its focus on education, financial empowerment, and community health, particularly addressing the high maternal mortality rate in Tarrant County, which disproportionately affects Black women.

To combat this, UWTC has trained 120 community-based doulas to support expecting mothers, providing vital resources and emotional care. The initiative aims to partner with local hospitals and ultimately eliminate maternal mortality in the county.

Under Powell’s leadership, UWTC is driving systemic changes to empower women and families, making maternal health a top priority.
