Benbrook residents dealt with a second unexpected disruption today, following yesterday’s widespread power outage.
This time, the morning commute was brought to a halt when a semi truck became stuck on the railroad tracks at Aledo Road and RM 2871, one of the town’s busiest crossings.
Drivers reported hearing the screech of brakes as an oncoming train stopped just after the crossing around 8:40 a.m., leaving the crossing arms down and traffic at a standstill. Many turned around to find another route, while the train remained in place for more than an hour.
The crossing finally cleared around 11 a.m., opening the way for drivers headed toward Highway 377. The delay was a reminder of how often train traffic hits Benbrook at the least convenient moments, whether during school pickup, the lunch rush, or the daily commute.
For now, roads are moving again. But with this crossing’s history, residents know to expect the unexpected. Safe travels, Benbrook.
