Power Outage Highlights Need for Preparedness.

After a widespread power outage yesterday that left parts of Benbrook and Fort Worth dark for up to eleven hours, residents are being urged to take simple steps to stay informed and better prepared for future disruptions.

The outage, caused by multiple transformers blowing in sequence, affected homes, businesses, and schools, with many families navigating four to six hours of darkness after sunset.

One of the most essential tools residents can use is ONCOR’s text alert system. By texting OUT to 66267, users can confirm their address and choose how they want to receive updates. Once enrolled, ONCOR will send real-time information as soon as it becomes available.

The outage also served as a reminder of how valuable backup power can be during extended interruptions. Portable generators and compact power stations offer affordable options for keeping phones charged, internet connected, and basic devices running.

Several models are currently available online, including small lithium battery stations starting at around $75 and larger units with solar panels for added flexibility. UPS battery backups can also keep modems and home office equipment running long enough to stay connected.

With colder nights ahead, staying prepared can make a significant difference. A few simple tools and early planning help ensure residents are not left in the dark the next time the grid falters.
