Residents just northwest of Benbrook woke up to flashing lights and blocked roads after a Union Pacific train derailed near the Davidson Yard along W. Vickery Boulevard early yesterday morning.
Fort Worth Fire Department crews, including multiple battalions, engines, and medic units, rushed to the scene. Nine rail cars were involved, with two leaking carbon dioxide. Officials confirmed the gas is non-toxic, but out of caution, residents along Driskell Boulevard were advised to shelter in place.
One placard on a car displayed the number 1689, typically used for flammable liquids, although officials reported no leaks from that vehicle. As of late afternoon, portions of W. Vickery remained closed, creating traffic delays around the Hulen and Vickery area.
This derailment isn’t the first for the area, leaving many residents concerned about safety and the frequency of incidents along this busy rail corridor.
