State Appoints New Leadership to Guide Fort Worth ISD Forward.

A new chapter is beginning for Fort Worth ISD, and for many families in Benbrook and across the district, the focus now shifts to what comes next.

The Texas Education Agency has appointed Dr. Peter B. Licata as superintendent, effective immediately under a 21-day interim contract, alongside a newly selected Board of Managers. The move is part of the state’s ongoing intervention to improve academic outcomes across the district.

Dr. Licata brings more than three decades of experience in education, including recent leadership in Broward County Public Schools in Florida, where the district earned its first A rating in over 14 years. His background spans the classroom to executive leadership, offering a broad view of what it takes to support student success at scale.

The nine-member Board of Managers reflects a mix of education, legal, business, and nonprofit leadership, with several members deeply connected to the Fort Worth community. Their role will be to provide governance and work alongside the superintendent and the state to strengthen performance across the district.

For families, this moment carries both uncertainty and opportunity. Leadership changes often bring questions, but they also open the door for renewed focus, accountability, and long-term progress.

The success of this next phase will depend not only on those appointed but on how well the system responds to the needs of students, teachers, and the broader community it serves.
