Benbrook Middle-High School runners got their first race of the season under their feet at the Boyd Invitational, with the Bobcats turning in several strong finishes.
Owen Atkins led the Benbrook boys in the 5K, placing first overall with a time of 15:29.21 (new personal and school record). Dylan Gonzales followed with an 11th-place finish at 16:56.21.
Benjamin Brown finished 29th at 18:04.58, followed closely by Bridger Clegg in 30th at 18:11.49 and Nathaniel Brown in 35th at 18:24.37. Kyler Parsons, Elijah Lopez, Alexander Carvalho, Richard Wright and Owen Abraham rounded out the Bobcats’ boys results.
In the girls 3200-meter race, Molly Helm led Benbrook with a 17th-place finish in 12:57.51. Madison Norman placed 30th at 13:26.77, followed by Miranda Petty, Eleanor Vazquez, Trinity Triner, Gemma Lackey, Heidi Gonzalez, Eve Carnegie and Maggie Plummer.
With the first meet in the books, the Bobcats have an early benchmark as they settle into the cross-country season.
