Tuesday night had a little bit of everything at Benbrook Middle-High School, with football on the practice field and district volleyball inside the gym.
The evening began with the seventh-grade Bobcats playing a two-quarter intrasquad scrimmage before the eighth-grade team took on Wedgwood. Benbrook struck first for an 8-0 lead, but the Spartans quickly answered.
Both offenses moved the ball, and both defenses made big plays, though penalties erased several potential scores. By the end, the teams had combined for 70 points, with Wedgwood pulling away for a 48-22 win.
Inside the BMHS gym, the Lady Bobcats were writing a different ending.
Benbrook’s varsity volleyball team had its hands full early against an athletic Eastern Hills squad. The opening set went back and forth before the Lady Bobcats squeezed out a 26-24 win.
Benbrook jumped ahead 8-1 in the second set. Eastern Hills pushed back, but the Lady Bobcats held them off for a 25-11 win, then finished the sweep 25-13 in the third.
The JV Lady Bobcats also picked up a win Tuesday. A freshman result was unknown.
The varsity Lady Bobcats have now won four straight, improving to 18-13 overall and 4-1 in district play. They head to Dunbar on Friday for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Lady Wildcats.
