Senior Night Turns into Late-Game Battle for Lady Cougars Softball.

Senior Night at Western Hills had all the right pieces early on. A home crowd, six seniors being honored, and a team looking to close things out on a high note.

Instead, it turned into one of the more back-and-forth games of the season.

The Lady Cougars faced Diamond Hill-Jarvis on Friday night, a team they had beaten earlier in the year. Through two innings, both sides held firm in a scoreless start before the Lady Eagles broke through with three runs in the third.

The Lady Cougars answered right away. A six-run inning flipped the game and gave the Lady Cougars a 6-3 lead, setting up what felt like a storybook finish.

But the Lady Eagles had other plans.

A seven-run surge in the fifth inning swung momentum again, putting the Lady Eagles in front 10-6. The Lady Cougars kept pushing, trimming the deficit to 10-8, but could not fully close the gap. A final run from the Lady Eagles sealed an 11-8 loss and ended the Lady Cougars’ two-game win streak.

Even in the loss, there were strong performances across the field. Addison Dudley struck out 18 batters over seven innings and continued her consistent run in the circle. At the plate, Isabela Gonzales led the way, going 4-for-5 with a triple, two RBI, and a run. Andrea Aguirre added two hits and a stolen base.

The result was not what the team hoped for, but the night still carried its meaning. It marked the final home game for a senior class that helped push the Lady Cougars into playoff position.

Now sitting at 14-8 overall and 9-3 in district, the Lady Cougars turn their attention to one last regular-season game on the road against the Southwest Lady Raiders before the postseason begins.
