Day two of the Springtown and Mineral Wells Tournament tested the Lady Bobcats in every way.
After dropping their first two games, the Lady Bobcats opened Friday against Springtown looking to reset.
Instead, the Lady Porcupines came out swinging with Natalya Muzquiz in the circle. A big first inning quickly put the Bobcats behind, and the game ended in a 19-0 loss. It was a difficult stretch on both sides of the ball, and Benbrook found itself 0-3 in the tournament.
But the day did not end there. In the afternoon matchup against Arlington Heights, the Lady Bobcats responded with urgency.
Benbrook erupted in the first inning, stringing together hits from Maelee Lindley, Kaylee Boswell, Jolie Hornbeck, Madison Canada, and Muzquiz to build an early 9-0 lead. The Lady Yellowjackets answered, though, with a six-run inning of its own, but this time the Lady Bobcats did not fade.
The Lady Bobcats added insurance runs in the third and kept the pressure on at the plate, finishing the game with 13 hits and eight stolen bases in a 13-8 win.
Muzquiz earned the victory in the circle, striking out eight over three and one-third innings while also collecting three hits at the plate. Lindley added three hits, and Boswell and Maddy Davila contributed multiple hits.
The lineup showed balance and speed, something the coaching staff hopes to carry forward.
The Lady Bobcats now sit at 1-3 in tournament play and 6-10 overall. They close out the weekend Saturday at noon against Dublin Lady Lions, looking to build momentum before returning to district action.
It has been a weekend of highs and lows, but if Friday afternoon proved anything, it is that this team still has fight left in it.
