Questions about why Dollar General in Benbrook keeps closing unexpectedly sparked a wave of responses from frustrated residents and employees this week, with many citing ongoing air-conditioning problems and frequent power outages in the area.
Some residents initially wondered whether Friday’s widespread outage in Benbrook had forced the store to close early. Others said closures have been happening long before the latest outage because temperatures inside the building regularly climb into the 80s and even near 90 degrees.
According to comments shared online, two of the store’s three air-conditioning units need replacement, creating difficult working conditions for employees and uncomfortable shopping conditions for customers.
One employee from another location within the same district said stores are sometimes forced to close when indoor temperatures rise too high, while another resident said they have contacted corporate offices multiple times over the past few years to request repairs.
The conversation also reopened a familiar complaint among longtime Benbrook residents: frequent power interruptions across parts of the city. Residents speculated that the outages could stem from aging infrastructure, tree limbs, wildlife interference, or vehicle accidents that have damaged equipment over the years.
While some commenters acknowledged repair delays can involve property management approvals and outside contractors, many residents said they simply want quicker solutions for employees and customers dealing with the heat.
For now, many shoppers say they are left checking whether the doors are open before making another stop at the store.
