Brad Barnes, the longtime president of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, has announced his retirement plans for April after 38 years with the organization.
Barnes, who began his journey with the stock show as part of the calf scramble committee, became president in 2004 and led the event through numerous milestones, including this yearโs Junior Sale of Champions, which raised over $10 million.
Barnes’ retirement follows a larger leadership shift at the iconic event, with Matt Carter named senior executive vice president and later general manager, succeeding Barnes. Additionally, Ed Bass stepped down as chairman in 2022, with Philip Williamson taking over the role. A formal announcement regarding Barnes’ retirement is expected after the eventโs annual board meeting in April.
