Mother’s Day looked a little different for one local emergency crew this year.
As volunteers prepared at the Cresson Volunteer station for the possibility of severe weather moving into the area, a nearby family arrived asking for help with an emergency of a very different kind. Their cow had been struggling to deliver a calf for several days and was rapidly declining.
When it became clear the calf could not be saved, the crew stepped in to help deliver the stillborn calf and save the life of the mother cow.
It may not have been listed anywhere in standard EMS protocols, but the responders handled the situation anyway, turning what could have been a complete loss into a moment of compassion and care for a local family.
Sometimes serving the community means responding to emergencies no one expects.
