For most parents, watching their kids run, play, and compete brings a mix of pride and quiet concern. You trust they are healthy, but sometimes the biggest risks are the ones no one can see.
That is the focus behind a free EKG screening event for kids happening Saturday, May 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department Training Center, located at 9401 E US 377 in Cresson.
Organized by the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department, in partnership with local medical and emergency services, the event offers quick, non-invasive heart screenings to detect potential issues early. Sudden cardiac arrest in youth is rare, but when it happens, it often occurs during everyday activities like sports. An EKG can help identify concerns before they become serious.
Screenings will be performed by trained first responders, and families will receive printed results to share with their child’s doctor. While the screening is not a medical diagnosis, it can serve as an important first step.
Parents are encouraged to sign up in advance to help organizers plan, though walk-ins will be accepted as space allows. For those who participated last year, organizers recommend returning to help track any changes over time. Note that a waiver is required for minors.
It is a simple appointment that could bring a lot of peace of mind, especially for families whose kids are always on the move.
