A controversial policy proposal meant to require top Fort Worth ISD administrators to live within district boundaries was pulled from the agenda at Wednesday night’s board meeting and is now postponed until the next session.
For years, the district has faced criticism for allowing high-ranking leaders to collect six-figure taxpayer-funded salaries while living outside of Fort Worth. The argument from critics is straightforward: if you lead a school district, you should have a vested interest in its schools. Past and current deputy superintendents have reportedly lived in other cities, fueling concern about loyalty, accountability, and whether these leaders would send their kids to FWISD campuses.
Despite repeated public frustration, the board has consistently voted down similar measures in the past. And with relationships among board members and senior staff in play, some say this issue may be headed for yet another stall.
