The Fort Worth ISD Board will review and vote on a revised five-year strategic plan during its meeting on Tuesday. The plan aims to address long-standing academic stagnation and leadership instability.
The updated strategy focuses on improving literacy rates, retaining teachers, and engaging families. Among its goals, the plan seeks to raise the percentage of third graders reading and performing math at grade level to 50% by 2029, up from last yearโs 33%. The plan also calls for district-wide literacy initiatives and reallocating funds to prioritize early education.
Ken Kuhl of Leadership ISD praised the planโs emphasis on third-grade literacy but urged the district to monitor pre-K through second-grade progress more closely, noting early intervention is critical.
This decision comes after months of turmoil, including Superintendent Angรฉlica Ramsey’s resignation and criticism from civic leaders over the district’s stagnant performance. Interim Superintendent Karen Molinar is currently leading the district, and discussions about launching a search for a permanent superintendent are also on the agenda.
The board will convene at 5:30 p.m. at the Fort Worth ISD Service Center, following a 4:45 p.m. news conference with city and district leaders highlighting a renewed focus on student literacy.
