F-35B Training Roars Through Benbrook.

Benbrook, TX – The skies over Naval Air Station (NAS) Joint Reserve Base (JRB) Fort Worth have been buzzing with action as Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron (VMFAT) 502, the “Flying Nightmares,” conducts an intensive two-week training detachment on the F-35B Lightning II.

Running through March 13, the mission trains Marine Corps pilots for real-world combat in the F-35B, a versatile jet with vertical takeoff, landing, and short-field capabilities ideal for tough environments. Over a year-long program, pilots advance from basic flights to high-stakes multi-ship strike missions, including nighttime bombing runs.

While residents may have noticed increased jet noise, the squadron emphasizes the importance of its mission—ensuring Marine pilots are battle-ready for future deployments.

As training wraps up, NAS JRB Fort Worth continues its legacy as a premier joint reserve base, supporting national defense with top-tier training and operational readiness.
