After four straight losses, Western Hills boys soccer needed a reset. Friday night provided one.
The Cougars entered the match 5-10 overall and 2-5 in district play, sitting sixth in the standings. Young Men’s Leadership Academy stood across the field, a team Western Hills had edged 1-0 earlier in the district. This time, there was nothing narrow about it.
The Cougars struck twice in the first half and controlled the pace from the start. The defense held firm, limiting chances and keeping YMLA off the board. In the second half, the offense opened up completely. Five more goals followed, turning a needed win into a 7-0 rout.
The result moves the Cougars to 6-10 on the season and 3-5 in district play. More importantly, it restores confidence heading into a busy week.
The Cougars next face the Eastern Hills Highlanders on Tuesday before closing the week with a rivalry showdown at Benbrook against the Bobcats. After Friday’s performance, the Cougars look like a team ready to compete again rather than one stuck in a slump.
