The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth has issued a cold weather advisory for North and Central Texas, including 40 counties such as Tarrant, Dallas, Denton, and Collin.
The advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday, with wind chills plunging as low as 7°F, increasing the risk of hypothermia if precautions aren’t taken.
Residents are urged to dress in layers, including hats, gloves, and face masks, and to limit outdoor exposure. Pets should be kept indoors, and outdoor animals must have warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Vulnerable individuals and portable heaters should also be checked on to ensure safety.
NWS distinguishes between cold weather alerts:
- Advisory: Be aware of cold conditions that require protective measures.
- Warning: Take action to avoid dangerously cold conditions.
- Watch: Prepare for potential extreme cold by adjusting plans and updating emergency kits.
