City of Benbrook to Conduct Mosquito Spraying in Response to West Nile Virus Detection.

BENBROOK, TX—To protect the community from the spread of West Nile Virus, the City of Benbrook will spray for mosquitoes on the night of Wednesday, August 28. The targeted area encompasses a half-mile radius surrounding the 1400 block of Vernon Castle Avenue. Weather permitting, spraying will begin at 11:00 PM and continue through 6:00 AM on Thursday morning, August 29.

The spray zone will include the region generally bounded by Mesquite Trail to the north, Rio Grande Drive to the south, Duane Street to the west, and Timberline Drive to the east. This decision comes after Tarrant County Public Health confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus in a mosquito found in the area.

Safety Precautions for Residents

The City assures residents that the mosquito control pesticide is safe for humans and pets, but as with any pesticide, it’s recommended to minimize exposure. Officials advise keeping windows closed and pets indoors while spraying is in progress.

Additionally, the City of Benbrook reminds residents to take preventive steps to reduce the risk of West Nile Virus transmission. Key recommendations include:

  • Dumping standing water in and around homes as stagnant water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
  • Using mosquito repellent when spending time outdoors.
  • Wearing long sleeves and pants if outside during peak mosquito activity hours, typically from dusk to dawn.

A Call for Community Action

Residents must stay vigilant and work together to eliminate potential mosquito habitats. By reducing standing water and following basic protective measures, the community can significantly lower the risk of contracting West Nile Virus.

For more information on mosquito spraying or to learn about protective measures, residents can contact Bennett Howell at 817-249-6063 or via email at bhowell@benbrook-tx.gov.

Let’s work together to protect Benbrook from West Nile Virus—every effort counts!
