As uncertainty grows over the potential halt to SNAP benefits, one local restaurant chain is stepping up to ensure no child goes hungry.
John and Margaret Schissler, owners of several Chicken Salad Chick locations across North Texas, have announced free kids’ meals for families affected by the lapse in benefits.
Starting October 28, children dining at Chicken Salad Chick locations in Burleson, Fort Worth, Hurst, Midlothian, and Southlake will receive a complimentary meal—no purchase necessary and no questions asked. The offer is available to dine-in guests, limited to one kids’ meal per child, and will continue until SNAP benefits are restored statewide.
The Schisslers, parents themselves, said their decision was about compassion, not politics, and a desire to support families facing financial strain. Their gesture reflects a growing trend of local businesses stepping up to fill the gap during the ongoing government shutdown.
