With its hospitality and charm, great public schools, a magnificent lake, and perfect proximity to the city and the country, Benbrook is an idyllic community and an excellent place to raise a family. Residents of Benbrook find little to complain about (especially once Benbrook Boulevard is completed). However, there is one wishful refrain often heard around town. Old and new residents seem to lament the lack of great dining options in our otherwise beloved community. So, we’ve compiled a list of 5 new restaurant concepts we would love to see in Benbrook within the next five years (in no particular order).
Note: The following restaurant wish list does not mean disregarding the few restaurants currently serving our community. But we can all agree that with limited options, it is easy to get burned out by eating from the same menus repeatedly.
A Tex-Mex Restaurant With Fresh Ingredients, a Large Patio, and Middle-Shelf Margaritas
When the weather is nice, a few things are better than dining outside with friends. And what goes better with patio dining than good Tex-Mex (fajitas, enchiladas, tamales, chips, salsa, etc.) and delicious margaritas? Nothing… as far as we’re concerned. That’s why we’d love to see a modern Mexican restaurant with a large, shaded patio serving handmade guacamole, fresh tortillas, incredible salsa, high-quality meats, great margaritas, and other cocktails.
A Fresh Deli With Original Salads, Soups, and Sandwiches
How great would it be to have a fantastic deli within a couple of minutes of your house? Imagine a scrumptious salad, a multilayered artisan sandwich, a warm soup, and a wide selection of teas and coffees, served with a smile from a fellow Benbrook resident (in our imagination, this deli is definitely locally owned). Someone make this happen!
A Lakeside Restaurant With a Large Selection of Local Beer and an Outdoor Stage Overlooking the Water
*Note: This restaurant concept doesn’t come without its set of challenges, including possible coordination with the Corp. of Engineers and revised city ordinances.
Picture a Saturday evening with family and/or friends at a lakeside restaurant. A friendly wait staff serves delicious surf and turf while a cool breeze blows in from the lake. A few minutes in, you decide it’s beer time and ask for a menu. The menu is loaded with 20-30 local beers on tap to your joy and delight. There are some Rahr offerings, of course, and offerings from Revolver, Four Corners, Deep Ellum, Legal Draft, and many more. You order a beer, eat your meal, and tell your dinner guests that it can’t get any better than this. Right about the time the words leave your mouth, you hear the downbeat of a local singer/songwriter as the band gets ready to play. You order a second beer. The band plays as you and your friends watch the sun go down over the lake. Euphoric.
A Cozy Breakfast and Brunch Restaurant
Sous vide eggs, chicken and waffles, imaginative omelets, and affordable Mimosas. Need we say more? How great would having such a wonderful brunch destination within Benbrook city limits be? No more having to drive to Fort Worth or Dallas to experience the delightful carelessness that a well-prepared brunch brings. This isn’t asking too much, is it?
A Modern Vietnamese Restaurant With Authentic Pho & Spring Rolls
We think the title says it all. Well, maybe not all of it (we intentionally left out the boba tea). But still, your mouth is beginning the salivation process as you think about a warm bowl of pho and the freshness of a tightly wrapped spring roll.
