Benbrook soccer fans have another reason to celebrate. One of the Lady Bobcats’ most accomplished players is staying close to home.

Sydney Chavez, the Class of 2026 forward and Benbrook High School’s all-time leading goal scorer, announced this week that she has changed her college plans and will continue her soccer career at Texas Wesleyan University.

Chavez had previously committed to the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas. On social media, she shared the change with the message “Change of Plans,” along with Jeremiah 29:11, thanking Jesus for the opportunity to become a Ram. She did not share the reason for the change.

This news means local fans will have even more opportunities to watch one of the community’s standout student athletes continue her journey.

Known for her scoring ability, leadership, and work ethic, Chavez leaves behind a remarkable legacy as the Lady Bobcats’ all-time leading scorer and now begins the next chapter just a few miles from home.

Texas Wesleyan opens its 2026 women’s soccer season on Tuesday, August 11, against Hill College. The full Rams schedule is available at https://ramsports.net/sports/womens-soccer/schedule/2026.

Congratulations to Sydney Chavez on this exciting new chapter. We’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.
