FWISD Parents and Teachers Voice Concerns as School Year Ends.

As the Fort Worth Independent School District closes out another turbulent school year under the state-appointed TEA board, many parents and teachers say the uncertainty about the district’s future is only growing louder.

Conversations across community forums and parent groups have centered on everything from school culture and staffing changes to concerns surrounding the state’s Bluebonnet Learning curriculum.

Some parents worry that traditional parts of the school experience, including field trips and classroom celebrations, are slowly disappearing as campuses face tighter oversight and increased academic pressure. Teachers have also described a more rigid environment, with some saying campuses are being pushed to teach continuously through the final days of school in preparation for district visits and accountability reviews.

Others have raised concerns about religious references appearing inside portions of the Bluebonnet curriculum. Parents shared that students can opt out of certain lessons and were pointed to online resources with sample opt-out letters and curriculum materials.

The curriculum itself has become a growing topic statewide, with some families questioning whether the lesson content fully aligns with what students are tested on and whether there is enough transparency around instructional materials.

Teachers inside FWISD say uncertainty remains high heading into next year, with some campuses operating under different expectations depending on accountability ratings. Several educators also noted that many staff members will not receive detailed campus plans until they return later this summer.

At the center of nearly every conversation was one repeated message from parents and teachers alike: stay involved, pay attention to school board meetings, and vote.
