Resident Urges Neighbors to Speak Up as Flood Concerns Grow.

Recent storms have left a lasting mark on one Benbrook neighborhood, and long-time resident Greg Clem is calling on the community to stay alert and involved.

Thanksgiving week brought heavy rain and fast-moving stormwater that, according to Greg’s home security footage, completely covered both east side drains on November 24. The drains vanished beneath the runoff, raising new concerns about how the area handles severe weather.

A lighter rain later in the week told a different story. Around 3:30 pm on Saturday, a brief shower dropped roughly half an inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain in about thirty minutes. This time, the drains kept up. No overflow. No flooding. The difference highlighted what many residents fear: some storms push the system beyond its limits, and the margin for safety may be shrinking.

If you haven’t already made plans tomorrow, Greg is requesting neighbors to attend the upcoming Benbrook City Council meeting on Thursday, December 4. The agenda includes staff reports on floodplain management, flood insurance, and the city’s substantial damage plan. For those concerned about development in floodplain areas or the protection of green spaces, this meeting presents a key moment to voice those concerns.

The meeting will be held at City Hall, 911 Winscott Road, beginning with a pre-council worksession at 6:45 pm and the regular meeting at 7:00 pm. Residents can review the full agenda at https://www.benbrook-tx.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_12042025-793?html=true.

Greg’s message is simple. Storms will come and go, but the community’s voice matters. Showing up now may help shape how Benbrook prepares for the next one.
