Western Hills Cheer Tryouts Set for May 5.

Friday night lights may still be months away, but at Western Hills High School, preparations for the next school year are already picking up energy.

The school is inviting students with spirit, confidence, and school pride to step onto the mat and try out for the 2026-27 cheer squad. For many students, cheer becomes more than chants from the sidelines. It becomes a place to build friendships, represent the school, and grow in confidence throughout the year.

Tryouts are scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, at 4 p.m., following a cheer clinic on May 4 at 4 p.m. Students will also need to complete a physical on May 2 at 11:15 a.m. A mandatory fitting and parent meeting is set for May 14 at 6 p.m.

Organizers are encouraging students to come ready to “jump, stunt, cheer, and shine,” while also embracing the challenges and opportunities that come with being part of the program.

Questions about tryouts can be emailed to vanita.bell@fwisd.org.

For students thinking about trying something new before the next school year begins, this may be the moment to step out, take the floor, and see where it leads.
