Benbrook Spirit of Christmas Seeking Help to Cover Dozens of Unfilled Angels.

Benbrook’s long-running Spirit of Christmas program is asking residents to step in and help cover a sudden gap in holiday support.

A local business that normally adopts around forty angels had to bow out this year, leaving dozens of children still waiting to be matched. Program coordinator Beth Gatlin is hoping the community can rally to fill the need.

The Spirit of Christmas works closely with counselors in Benbrook schools to identify families who could use extra support during the holidays. Each child is paired with an “angel” who purchases clothing, basic necessities, and a few wish-list items tailored to the child’s sizes and preferences. Once matched, participants receive everything they need to shop for their assigned child, making the process simple and personal.

Those adopting an angel are encouraged to spend about $100. Gifts are placed in a single large bag labeled with the angel’s name and family number, then dropped off on December 11. The program has been a neighborhood tradition since 1986 and relies heavily on Benbrook residents and local businesses to keep it going strong.

Anyone willing to adopt an angel can request one based on age or gender, or simply take as many as they are able. Even residents who cannot shop this year can still help by sharing the call with friends, family, and coworkers to widen the circle of support.

Benbrook has stepped up for nearly four decades, and organizers are confident the community can close the gap again this year.
