A group of Western Hills High School students spent their weekend on the competition floor, and came back with more than just medals. They returned with a story of discipline, creativity, and confidence earned the hard way.
Several members of the WHHS Color Guard traveled to Timber Creek High School to compete in the NTCA Guard Solo and Ensemble Contest, where students are responsible for building much of their performance from the ground up. From selecting music to choreographing routines, much of the work is self-driven, with guidance from Guard Director Ms. Lagunas.
That effort showed. Every Western Hills soloist earned an Excellent rating, including Veronica Lewis, Amy Guzman, Kaylee Gallardo, Jbria Madden, Michel Trejo, and Jayla Truevillian. The team’s trio, made up of Gallardo, Guzman, and Madden, took it a step further, earning a Superior rating and bringing home medals.
Behind the scenes, the program also recognized Yuritzi for her steady presence and wide-ranging impact across campus. Known for investing in students both on and off the floor, her influence continues to shape not just performances, but people.
For Western Hills, the results speak clearly. When students take ownership of their work and have the right support around them, growth follows, and so does success.
