Western Hills tennis made the short trip to Burleson last week and came home with more than just experience.
On February 17, the varsity team competed in the Burleson Spring Open and left with eight medals.
Vianet Garcia and Jessica Hernandez claimed first place in Girls Doubles. Diego Hernandez and Mohammed Soumahoro took the top spot in Boys Doubles. In the consolation bracket, Sebastian Lopez and Issac Street earned a win in Boys Doubles, while Juan Duran and Amy Guzman finished strong in Mixed Doubles.
The momentum carried into February 18 when the JV squad stepped onto the courts for their own Spring Open.
For many of those players, it was their first tournament. What stood out was not just the scores, but the growth. Marckus Reyes and Michael Owens, with only three weeks of experience and Owens’ first tournament appearance, secured third place in Boys Doubles.
It was a week that showed depth across the program, from seasoned varsity players to newcomers learning the rhythm of competition.
JV takes a short break next week before returning to tournament play. If this past week is any sign, Western Hills tennis is building something steady and strong.
