Volunteers Brave Cold for Fort Worth’s Homeless Count.

In freezing temperatures, nearly 500 volunteers across Tarrant and Parker counties participated in the annual Point in Time Count on January 23, a federal initiative to assess homelessness.

Equipped with headlamps and warm layers, participants like Courtney and Mike Hendrix, along with Partnership Home CEO Lauren King, canvassed Fort Worth’s streets, shelters, and encampments.

This one-night survey, organized by Partnership Home, aims to collect crucial data, including demographics and reasons for homelessness, to guide funding and solutions. However, volunteers faced challenges, as some declined to share personal details, requiring observational surveys.

While Tarrant County reported a 12% decline in homelessness last year, it anticipates stable figures for 2024. The results, set to be released in May, will inform Fort Worth’s response, which includes new initiatives like resource hubs and anti-panhandling campaigns.
