Nate Meyer and Ty Vansteenburg, best friends and roommates since their freshman year at Texas Christian University (TCU), have opened a Jimmy John’s franchise at 3021 S. University Drive.
The location, which has been part of the TCU restaurant strip since 2015, is the result of an opportunity to take over the franchise when the previous ownerโs agreement expired.
Meyer, originally a neuroscience major, and Vansteenburg, a former real estate and finance student, both found their passion for business after taking entrepreneurship classes together.
With guidance from Vansteenburg’s father, a longtime Jimmy Johnโs franchise owner, and mentorship from TCU adjunct professor Michael Browning, the duo gained the knowledge needed to start their own franchise.
Though theyโve faced challenges, including updating the restaurant and hiring a team, the pair has been buoyed by positive support from TCU students and faculty. Meyer and Vansteenburg are excited to serve the community with quality ingredients, such as freshly sliced produce and bread no more than four hours old.
Despite the rigorous demands of running a business in their final semester, which is open daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., both remain committed to their education and hope to expand their franchise in the future.
