A taste of the Old West is just a short drive from Benbrook when the 4th Annual Texas Cowboy Symposium returns to Warren’s Backyard in Granbury on Sept. 25 and 26.
The two-day gathering brings together chuckwagons, cowboy poetry, Western music, dancing, demonstrations, and plenty of food. Friday evening includes a youth steak cook-off followed by a Western Swing dance with Finis Smith.
Saturday starts with campfire coffee at 8:30 a.m., followed by a chuckwagon history tour, wagon judging, cowboy poetry and a Dutch oven cooking demonstration. The chuckwagon camps are free and open to the public through 3 p.m.
Later Saturday, the cookoff takes center stage. Guests can sample food from 14 chuckwagons serving cowboy favorites including chicken-fried steak, potatoes, beans, Dutch oven bread, and dessert. Live music begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 5:15, awards at 7, and Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys at 7:15.
The family-friendly event will be held at Warren’s Backyard, 2901 Weatherford Highway in Granbury. Proceeds benefit Hood County youth livestock show exhibitors and the Granbury High School BBQ Team.
